An academic paper on positive electrode active materials for magnesium rechargeable batteries by our student Mr. Jonghyun Han et al. has been accepted for publication in Journal of Materials Chemistry A.

How to suppress the oxidative decomposition of electrolyte is one of the key issues to be solved for the practical use of magnesium batteries. In collaboration with Prof. Ichitsubo at Institute for Materials Research, Tohoku University and Prof. Nakayama at Nagoya Institute of Technology, we have clarified the mechanism by which positive electrode active materials exhibit different catalytic activities for the oxidative decomposition of electrolyte, and proposed a new concept of “positive electrode active materials that suppress the oxidative decomposition of electrolyte”. >Read (open access)

A review titled “Progress of Electrolytes for Magnesium Rechargeable Batteries and Future Challenges” was published online in Journal of the Japan Institute of Metals.

An academic paper on positive electrode active materials for magnesium rechargeable batteries by our student Mr. Mengqiao Wang et al. has been accepted for publication in Journal of Alloys and Compounds.

We investigated the possibility of intercalation and deintercalation of magnesium ions in FePS3 and FePSe3 with a layered structure and analyzed their behavior as electrochemical capacitors (pseudocapacitors).

A scientific paper on catalysts for glucose fuel cells by our student Mr. Huang et al. has been accepted for publication in the Journal of the Electrochemical Society.

This research was conducted in collaboration with Assoc. Prof. Rupp at MIT. We discussed the mechanism of glucose oxidation reaction using EQCM. We also made a prototype glucose fuel cell using a neutral electrolyte and evaluated its performance for implantable applications.

The book “Next Generation Batteries Realization of High Energy Density Rechargeable Batteries, Kiyoshi Kanamura (Ed.)” has been published by Springer.

Dr. Yagi co-authored the first chapter on magnesium batteries with Prof. Tetsu Ichitsubo at Institute for Materials Research, Tohoku University.
